The Cottage

SNOWDROP COTTAGE AND BRIEF HISTORY
The cottage is part of the former Lowther Arms Coaching Inn and its history dates from 1865 or much earlier.
Named after the Lowther family who were the main land-owner in the Lake District and resided in Lowther Castle, Penrith and Whitehaven. Our aim is to provide first class self catering accommodation with our cottage and sleeping for 4.

Internally the holiday cottage is cosy, having full gas central heating. The ground floor rooms have exposed beams. In the lounge there is Sky TV and DVD. The lounge is tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard. One of the two leather sofas doubles up as an extra bed when needed. The kitchen is fully fitted with gas hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge and freezer also very generously supplied with tableware, cookware, etc. The fitted 'settle' seating having previously been used in the original Lowther Arms Inn very comfortable!

Upstairs there is a double bedroom with sumptuous leather sleigh bed and fitted wardrobes. There is also a second bedroom with twin bunk beds. The bathroom is newly fitted with seated bath and good powerful shower over. Fresh linen and bath towels provided.

At the rear there is a paved area for chilling and barbeques. There is also a large grass area with child's swing, picnic table and chairs offering excellent views over the Irish Sea and Solway Firth to watch the sunsets after a lovely day out enjoying the beauty of the Lake District.

A converted stable contains the laundry room and also a Games Room which has a Pool Table and Dartboard. There is no charge for the Games Room (key is left in cottage).

We would like to welcome dog owners and provide an outside kennel. Dogs are not allowed inside the cottage (see pricing schedule).

There is ample parking outside.

Poet Joseph Hodgson has captured a taste of the area in 1879 when he wrote;

"When you get to the Inn through the green shady bowers,
Inhaling pure air and the odour of flowers
You may take up a paper and sit yourself down,
And read all the news of the country or town
In the Lowther Arms Inn is a spacious room
For parties who come from the country or town
And patrons who call have the hearty good thanks
Of Mrs Jane Lancaster, at sweet Siller Banks"
