Things to See & Do
Close proximity to the cottage are gentle walks to take in the evening air or for the more adventurous follow the paths of the famous "Wainwright" whose favourite mountain Haystacks is close by, or you could try England's highest peak Scafell Pike at 3210 feet.
Cycling routes are very numerous and we have the C2C or Coast To Coast starting point from Whitehaven.
Among the best Lake District tourist attractions are the Rum Story where you can experience the Slave Trade and Piracy, Tall Ships, Rum Smuggling and Whitehaven's Georgian Sea Port and Modern Marina. Whitehaven has a strong connection with the First President of the USA George Washington and also the founding of the American Navy with John Paul Jones. Also we have the Beacon Museum overlooking the harbour and marina with quality restaurants and sea trip excursions. Through the summer months we have two International events namely the Whitehaven Maritime and Maryport Blues Music festival which are proving to be hugely successful.
Other tourist attractions within range are:
- Wild Ospreys at Bassenthwaite
- Wordsworth House at Cockermouth
- Ravenglass to Eskdale Miniature Railway
- Sheep Centre at Cockermouth
- Honister Slate Mine at Buttermere
- Beckermet Iron Ors Mine
- Rheged Discovery Centre
- Beatrix Potter
- Muncaster Castle Experience
- Cars of the Stars at Keswick
to name just a few not forgetting a memorable family day out at Trotters Farm.
The view from Snowdrop cottage overlooks Whitehaven Golf Course, set in a 163 acre parkland with a floodlit driving range. It is of American design with challenging 18 holes it will excite golfers of all standards. It offers hot food and has spectacular views into Ennerdale Valley well worth a visit! www.whitehavengolfclub.com
The other immediate attraction to the cottage is Rosehill Theatre and Restaurant with its varied entertainment programme, classical live music. Abba tribute bands to comedians like Jasper Carrot - a first class evening out!
